Master of horror R.L. Stine returns to his comedy roots in this laugh-out-loud, rotten-to-the-core, wildly popular chapter book series about the crazy antics at Rotten School!

Bernie Bridges, the most popular fourth grader at Rotten School, has got it made with loyal friends, a girlfriend (even if she pretends she’s not), and even a heated waterbed! But what Bernie doesn’t have is a solid-gold digital watch with forty-two functions like his archrival Sherman Oaks.

But Bernie has a plan to get it. Bernie always has a plan! It’s time for a blueberry pie eating contest. Winner takes all!

Packed with three dozen hilariously disgusting half-tone illustrations by Trip Park, readers won’t be able to resist the madness at Rotten School—where good is good, bad is better, and rotten is the absolute best!

About the Author

Trip Park grew up in Ithaca, New York, and went to college at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was first drawn to advertising. He then moved to Chicago, later New York, where he joined advertising agencies and worked on kids’ favorites including Cap’n Crunch, Gatorade, Kellogg’s, and Ronald McDonald. His children’s commercials have won numerous awards. But advertising also brought something equally as rewarding. There he got to work with some of his favorite illustrators. Watching these artists create their pieces inspired Trip Park to try his hand at illustrating himself.

Trip Park has illustrated a number of children's books including Gopher Up Your Sleeve, written by Tony Johnston, Trout, Trout, Trout! (A Fish Chant) and Ant, Ant, Ant! (An Insect Chant), both written by April Pulley Sayre. He has also developed characters and helped animate commercials for Nickelodeon, The California State Fair, Lego, and many others. When Rotten School came along, the opportunity to translate to the drawing board R.L. Stine’s cast of kids was a wonderful chance to combine his love for children’s illustration with this group of rotten students. His work can be seen at

Trip lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laura and four children.

I bought my nine year-old son this book and he liked it so much that the following week we went looking for the next one in the series. It not only started him reading but he can't wait for the next one. Bernie Bridges is his favorite character but he truly like everyone at Rotten School. He has all the books and love each one for the adventure that it bring his way. I really recommend this to parent for boys that don't really like to read, these book can really help turn them into reader.

I’m going to be talking about the book “Rotten School.” The book starts out when the children are in school. They walk down the halls and the morning announcements come on telling them about the rules and what will be going on that week. There was this kid named Bernie B and he liked this girl named April may June, but she didn’t like him because she like the rich kid with the shine watch that did 42 different things. Bernie was jealous so he came up with an Idea to get that watch. He asked the rich kid if he was in on it and he agreed to it so they picked each other’s players. The rich kid didn’t like the idea at first but then he overheard a conversation that was ment for him to hear to get him to agree to the contest. The rich kid agreed to the contest and picked Bernie’s friend Beast that they acted like he was allergic to blueberry pie but he really wasn’t. Bernie picked the cool kid on the rich kid’s side, but now they had to figure out a way to get the pies. Bernie went to the cooking teacher and told her his mom won’t be there on his birthday and his mom always bakes him a blueberry pie. The cooking teacher felt sorry for him and had every kid in her class bake a pie. When it was time to go to lunch then walked to the cooking room and started there pie contest. In my opinion about this book is that I thought this book was very funny, silly, and interesting. This is a book that I enjoyed reading and will probably read again someday. This book is all about jealousy then ends in a good way. I think this is a funny book you should read it sometime.

this book was writen by r.l. stine. this book starts out with the main charater Bernie B. getting ready for school. this story takes place at a(n) boarding school called Rotten School. You can call Bernie the smartest one out of his freinds maby the school. he has talked the headmaster into giving bounus points on test for putting your name at the top of the papper. he talked the gym teacher into thinking that wedgeing is a sport. he talked the headmyster into making a gameboy a reqiered school resorces. Berine is all about making money. he always comes up with these ideas to make money like selling tickets to second grades to see mars. in this book their is one of three thangs he is trying to acmplish. one is to sell t-shirts made from rope. the second one is to get a golden watch wit 42 funcition from the rich kid Sherman. the final goal he has is to take dance lessons with the hottest most popular girl in school april may june. I recomand this book becuse i think one R.L. stine dose an outstanding job cathing the reader and pulling him into the book.I this book has many unexspeted thangs like Bernie B. is being chased by jennifer ecch and you have no idea how she is at the time. this book is really good at discribing the characters.
