About the Author
Alistair MacLean, the son of a minister, was brought up in the Scottish Highlands. In 1941 he joined the Royal Navy. After the war he read English at Glasgow University and became a teacher. Two and a half years spent aboard a wartime cruiser gave him the background for HMS Ulysses, his remarkably successful first novel, published in 1955. He is now recognized as one of the outstanding popular writers of the 20th century, the author of 29 worldwide bestsellers, many of which have been filmed.
Sam Llewellyn is the author of several hugely successful nautical thrillers, including ‘Hell Bay’ and ‘The Iron Hotel’. An experienced sailor, he has sailed all over the world and now lives with his wife and family in Herefordshire.
Most Helpful Customer Reviews
I had read and re-read the Guns of Navarone and Force 10 From Navarone years ago. I bought the collection to read the two following stories done by Sam Llewellyn. I enjoyed them both and thought, from what I remember of Alistair's first two stories, that they were true to his style and story lines. If you have not read any of these stories I think you will enjoy good old fashioned story telling.
Really enjoy this author
I first read "The Guns of Navarone" when I was around 12 or 13. 30 years later, I find it just as mesmerizing! It's a brilliant mix of history, action, humanity, inhumanity, and suspense. I hope Nook publishes all of Mr. MacLean's stories. I believe he inspired authors like Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, and Vince Flynn. If you like these books, you may also like the works of Helen MacInnes; a contemporary of Alistair MacLean.
