This is a book that picks up where The Four Agreements left off. Building on the principles found in his father's bestselling book, Ruiz, Jr. explores the ways in which we attach ourselves inappropriately to beliefs and the world.

Ruiz explores the five levels of attachment that cause suffering in our lives. The levels are:

  • Authentic Self
  • Preference
  • Identification
  • Internalization
  • Fanaticism

Accessible and practical, Ruiz's exploration invites us to look at our own lives and see how an unhealthy level of attachment can keep us trapped in a psychological and spiritual fog. He then invites us to reclaim our true freedom by cultivating awareness, detaching, and discovering our true selves.

The author uses simple examples to explain what can be, for some, very profound ideas regarding reasons for one's suffering in day to day life. As you read, it may be helpful to reflect on your own daily habits and interactions in relation to what you read in each chapter. This type of reflection can be a great start to diminishing hot tempers and negative habits.

Rating 3.5/5 stars This was an enjoyable read. It was not quite what I expected but - like with all books that deal with life concepts - I took out what meant something to me and left behind that which did not resonate with what I believe. There are some great concepts in the book - I think I expected something more along the lines of the Four Agreements.  I enjoyed learning about the attachments and where the different levels are applied in my own life. If you enjoy spiritual reads, this is a quick snack. It isn't a heavy read and there is something in here for everyone.  Miguel has such a great way with words and explaining the concepts in layman's terms. Overall I enjoy his work and reading about the Toltec way.  Final Thoughts: It was still a great read that held some great concepts and advice. An enlightening read.
