Bulgakov had described the famous flat 50 in his works for many times, but as brilliantly as he did it in " The Hooch Lake", he narrated in such a way for the first time. Some episodes from the life of that flat are stated in his diary. The 29th of October 1923: "today is the first time they turned the heating on. The whole evening I spent on puttying the windows. The first heating was marked with the fact that the famous Annushka left the window in the kitchen standing to the wall for the whole night. I really do not know what to do with the rascals inhabiting this flat..."
