The year is 62AD. The place is Pompeii, a mere dot on the vast map of the Roman world. Its inhabitants go about their daily lives. Cygnia, the beautiful slave of cruel masters dreams of a better life. Publius, son of a baker, entertains youthful hopes of becoming a playwright. Epidius, moneylender, schemes ruthlessly in pursuit of his ambitions. Gnaeus, the town's richest citizen and sponsor of gladiatorial games, basks in the adoration showered on him by the citizens. And Prima, mother, strives to raise her children well, while all the time nursing a dark secret in her heart.

But beneath their feet, Vulcan, the god of fire, is stirring. And all of their lives are about to be changed forever...

The rediscovery of Pompeii gave us an unparalleled understanding of Roman architecture, politics, literature and art. But it also provided much more personal insights into its inhabitants through the thousands of graffiti Pompeians left behind. The Lost Voices is an epic story of love, life, lust, death, triumph and hope that is built around those countless voices calling out to us from the distant past.

The Lost Voices - Liber 1 is the first part in an epic, compelling trilogy of novels. Meticulously researched, it is one of those rare books that when you're not reading it, you'll look forward to getting back to it.
