I've been reading these books for over a decade, ever since I was young. But the last few books have become insufferable. This one, in particular, is just many years past its prime. Jeff Kinney is just not a good storyteller, at all. None of the characters are likable, there are quite a few plot holes, and the premise of the book doesn't even begin until the last act. This series has just become so detached from reality that Jeff Kinney does not know his head from his ass. Greg is a wimpy kid, as he should be, except one problem: he has just become so wimpy that it sacrifices logic, and therefore he's just become irredeemable as a character. But he's not alone. I literally can't think of a single character in this book that's likable in any way. These books have just become Greg telling stories from his past, sacrificing the actual story in the process. If that's not bad enough, he describes things that ruin continuity within the series. One thing I will actually give Jeff credit for, is that this book does have its moments of clever jokes and references. But that is not even close to being enough to save this absolute slogfest of a story. You buy this book for your kids, and even they'll regret reading it. It won't age well, and in the future I guarantee they won't remember reading it fondly. This series should just end, because it's fallen so far from grace.
