Margery Williams' heartwarming tale, first published in 1922, is still as touching now as it was nearly a century ago

In the nursery, the Velveteen Rabbit and Skin Horse talk about how a toy becomes Real. "When a child loves you for a long, long time... then you become Real," the wise old Skin Horse explains. A few days later, the Velveteen Rabbit finds himself tucked into bed with a little boy, and the two soon become inseparable. This extraordinary story is about love and the value it can invest in the people and things around you.

When someone loves you, they make you Real. And it doesn't matter what happens next; nothing can change the fact that they loved you; nothing can make you less Real.

If there's any such thing as the Christmas story for all ages written in the early twentieth century, this is the one. I've gifted this to countless numbers of people, children as well as adults, even "off season." Short and with a wealth of illustrations, VELVETEEN RABBIT explains the true meaning of love in any culture or nation. Though the image of the bunny rabbit is so often used for Easter, this book uses the same image, only in a Christmas context.
