The third book of the #1 New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four series!

The Mogadorians who destroyed the planet Lorien continue to hunt for the Garde, the small group of Loric survivors who have taken refuge on Earth. During a dangerous mission at a Mog base in West Virginia, John found and rescued the brutish Nine. But even with their combined powers, special abilities known as Legacies, the pair barely escaped with their lives. And in the process, John’s best friend, Sam Goode, was lost and taken captive by the enemy.
In order to save him—and our world—John and Nine must join forces with Six and Seven who have been battling the Mogs in Spain, and who are now trying to locate Number Eight in India. The Garde must come together before it is too late. They are Lorien and Earth’s only hope.
Michael Bay, director of Transformers, raved: “Number Four is a hero for this generation.” This epic young adult series is perfect for fans of action-packed science fiction like The Fifth Wave series by Rick Yancey, The Maze Runner series by James Dashner, and Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game.

The battle for Earth’s survival wages on. Read the rest of the series: #4: The Fall of Five, #5: The Revenge of Seven, #6: The Fate of Ten, and #7: United as One.

Don’t miss the first book in the brand new I Am Number Four spin-off series: Generation One.

This book was absolutely my favorite in the series and maybe my favorite book Iv'e ever read! There was so much action ans suspense throughout the entire thing book. I really liked how the Garde really came together and tested their strength against all the Mogadorian soldiers and there leader. They almost didn't make it through but they pulled it together to make a stand. There were many challenges with coming together but they made sure that they made it. This book was over all an amazing installation in the series and i am very excited to read the rest of the series when they come out!!!

The reviews heretofore predate the novel's release. Fans of the series, including me, expected a lot of Rise of Nine. It fell well short of my expectations. Gone is the heroism of the lead character John Smith; he spends much of the book brooding and getting bullied by the title character. "Nine" lacks the noble qualities of the other Lorien--he expresses contempt for humans and argues that the Loriens should abandon their princiipa human allly. I'm not sure how he rises in keeping with the title. My major criticisms of this installment center on poor character development, a plot that, for all the excitement doesn't get very far, the disappearance of my favorite character Sam from the story, and an ending that doesn't wind the story down. Indeed the book doesn't end as much as the author simply broke off writing without fallling action. Rise of Nine conspicuously lacks the epic qualities that make the series so appealling. The fourth novel in the series will have to carry extra weight to make up for the slightness of this installment. Can the author bring back the soaring quallity of the first two novels, or will the characters and action remain stuck in a rut? I'll await the fourth book eagerly, but if it is more like the third than the first, more discerning readers will move on to better-written series.

This book is, so far, my favorite. All the the chapters are action packed and full of suspense. And I can't wait to finish it and read the next three books when they come out! This series is pretty amazing. I usually don't read scifi or books with aliens, but these books are so different from the few cifi books I've read. I'd reccomend this to teens who don't or do like scifi. P.S. To the person who said it was a new author, it's not. There were two authors, James Frey and Jobie Hughes, who wrote I Am Number Four amd The Power of Six. Now it's just James Frey.

Audio: There were three narrators for this book. Only one did a good job. Neil Kaplan voiced John. He made him sound like a complete whiner. Okay, okay...John is somewhat of a whiner but not all the time. He has his moments of strength and valor and I heard none of that come through in Kaplan's narration. It was John's chapters that also included Nine. Nine I think could be a great character but again Kaplan's narration failed miserably for me. Nine was made to sound like a doped up surfer 'dude'. I cringed most of the times his character spoke. Marisol Ramirez narrated Six's chapters. I love Six, I think she is the best character in this series. However, Ramirez botched the reading. Her inflection was completely off and none of the feistiness of Six was heard. On the other hand, Devon Souvari who voiced Marina did quite a good job. Subsequently, her chapters became my favorites. Story: The story on The Rise of Nine is exactly what I've come to expect from the Lorrian Legacies. It was action packed with just the right amounts of sentiment and snark and, of course, cheesiness. It picks up with John and Nine roaming away from the Mogodorian base and Six heading back from Spain with her new companions. We learn much more about Nine, Marina and Ella and are introduced to yet another member of the Garde. And what a fun addition to this eclectic family he is. The dynamics between Garde members was entertaining to read (hear). They are so much like siblings, bickering and bantering, but when the fighting starts they are like a cohesive unit. New legacies are discovered, new friendships formed and a new determination is solidified amongst them all. I hate giving away spoilers and this is a difficult book to review without giving anything away, so I will keep it short. If your a fan of the series, you won't be disappointed by this edition. All that being said, I will not be continuing this series via audiobook. I feel like I missed a lot by not reading it. Lesson learned on this one.

I thought the "The Rise of Nine" was so cool. I read all three books and I'm waiting for the next book because the author left me on a really bad cliff hanger that makes you think " No don't end yet tell me more"! This has been the best book i have ever read!

I am a huge fan of Pittacus Lore's books. I just completed reading "The Rise of Nine" and am hapopy to know that this book is not the last one, but I am also at the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. I am a Soldier in the U.S. Army and so I can relate to fighting an enemy, but nothing as exciting as these books. Great book!!! I had to fight myself to put it down and get some sleep. I won't tell the story of what happens but it kept me glued to the pages of my Nook from cover to cover. I hope us the FANS will not have to wait another year for the next book, but I will.

Most of the book was spent by describing them traveling to their destination and fighting with magadorians. Other problems in this nook were barely touched or expanded on.

the first book in the trilogy was a great teen read, the second one much more complicated, but still fun. this one was a bit disappointing, obviously dashed off to continue the series. no depth of personalities, just shoot-em-up type storyline. :(

I'm an OTR heavy haul truck driver, and my sister got me into reading the first book: I am Number Four. Well, I couldn't put it down. Eventually I got: The power of Six, The rise of Nine, and The Lost Legacies. Pittacus Lore, in my professional opinion, ranks up there with my favorite authors: R.A. Slvatore, Raymond E Fiest, Anne McCaffrey... to name a few. I truly enjoy reading his books.

My favorite loric would have to be #4 fir the boy an #6 for the chick. I think they need toget together. The both r perfect for eachother!!!!!! Well... not as perfect as me and 4 would be... but the garde is kinda out of reach right now... so oh well... i guess 6 can have 4 until we meet up and then i will blow 6 out of the ball park!!!!! From #5 (Im a chick...btw... and im super hot! All the boys at my school r all over me :)

1. 4 is a wus i thought he was supposed to be the main character and strong 2. The interesting parts were when 4 and 9 were the ones in the chapter otherwise the other peeps were mostly boring lore should just stick with one group and not jump all over the place 3. The ending was too fast it was the climax then the story was over lore should put some falling action in there other wise favorite book in series ( best ive ever read) i love 9 hes a character but hes also to cocky and thinks about how cool he is him and 4 do not go together well
