From the New York Times bestselling author of All the Missing Girls and The Perfect Stranger comes a captivating psychological thriller about a girl who must face her darkest fears—but can she outrun the past?
Kelsey has lived most of her life in a shadow of suspicion, raised to see danger everywhere. Her mother hasn’t set foot outside their front door in seventeen years, since she escaped from her kidnappers with nothing but her attacker’s baby growing inside her—Kelsey.
Kelsey knows she’s supposed to keep a low profile and stay off the grid for their protection, but that plan is shattered when her dramatic car accident and rescue by volunteer firefighter and classmate Ryan Baker sparks media coverage.
A few days later, she arrives home to find her mother missing. Now, to have a chance at a future, Kelsey will have to face her darkest fears. Because someone is coming for her. And the truth about the past may end up being the most dangerous thing of all.

I could not put this book down, every page had me wanting more. Thrilling and suspenseful throughtout, till the very end. If you love mystery books, but you want something to spice it up, this book is also infused with young love and the test of true friendship. I reccommend this book to adults and young teenagers, who are looking for a great book to read that will keep you on your toes.

Kelsey, a 17 year old teenager, lives with her mother who hasn't left the house since Kelsey was born. When her mother was 17, she was kidnapped, she was gone for a year and came back 4 months pregnant. She doesn't remember what happened that year, but she is afraid to leave the house now. Kelsey is in car accident and her picture and name are in the paper. Shortly later her mother disappears and people are after her. It had suspense, you wondered if they were going to get away okay. I was also wondering what had actually happened to her mother when she disappeared for that year. You assume the people that came back are the same that had originally kidnapped her mother. Why are they back 17 years later? What happened? What was so important that they would come back so many years later? You eventually do find out and honestly I was a little disappointed, it was like, oh, okay. But overall it was still a pretty good book and I enjoyed it.

I told myself I was only going to read for 30 minutes max before I had to go to bed for school the next day. (I mean, I don't have school until the afternoon, but a girl likes her sleep) So I read for 30 minutes, but then I'm shaking because this stuff is creepy. It's dark, my husband is working, my dogs are asleep, and this book is scaring the crap out of me. I tell myself "Okay. There's no freaking way I can sleep. I'll just have to keep reading until I get to a nice part. Shouldn't take that long." Fast forward to 5AM. Finally got to that part. This book is amazing and trust me, I could not put it down. I didn't even want to stop at 5AM, but you know, school. The entire story, from bones to the squishies it's amazing. Great twists that keep you guessing. Tons of secrets where you don't really know what's going on, but you really really want to know. It's a must read, obviously. I was terrified. Who doesn't love when a book can teleport you into the action.

Just middle of the road. It was an interesting read but I found it just easy to put down when I didn't feel like reading anymore. It was by no means "bad" but it just did not hook me like I had been hoping. Overall, fine for what it was but just not for me.

I've been a big fan of Megan Miranda's every since her first book, FRACTURE, and I'm happy to say that THE SAFEST LIES does not disappoint. The novel is full of twists and turns, and I loved the main character Kelsey. The setup of the novel is that Kelsey's mom was kidnapped as a teenager, and hasn't left her house since Kelsey was born. So when her mom goes missing, Kelsey has to learn how to deal with her mom's past, as well as her own future. Megan Miranda beautifully interweaves all the best parts of a thriller with great psychological and moral questions. I've got her debut adult novel, ALL THE MISSING GIRLS on my TBR shelf, and I can't wait to start it.
