Sarah Brightman's The Songs That Got Away delivers what the title promises: a collection of 14 of Brightman's favorite songs that are more obscure to the general public. These little-known show tunes include works by Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Noël Coward, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and other great songwriters, making this album worthwhile not only for Brightman fans, but musical theater historians as well.

I purchased to CD to fill out my immense collection of Sarah Brightman disks and found it rather disappointing, there are a few good tracks, but not a single exceptional song on the entire disk.
Sarah has a moving, angelic voice, but even that cannot save these boring songs from being anything but comatose. I liked the Three-Cornered Tune and Mr. Monotony, but the rest were duds. I appreciate classic music, but there is no excuse for these drab, colorless, uninspired selections. She can do much better, and I wish she had... Because I am wishing I had left this CD at the store. Disappointing.
Sarah Brightman has a lovely voice, that gives life to this songs. Most are absolutely delightful, and entrancing! The only track I always skip is Lud's Wedding. I have looked at other reviews here, and it seems that nobody likes that track. Still this is one of my favorite Sarah Brightman Cds.
I loved this CD. These are good songs (Lud's wedding being the exception) extracted from mediocre shows. Sarah Brightman's voice is pure and angelic... especially on ''Chi Il Bel Sogno Di Doretta''. My favorites however, are ''Meadowlark'' and ''Dreamers''. If you don't like it after the first listen....... listen to it again.
I was bowled over when I first heard this marvelous CD by the great Miss Brightman! What a brilliant selection of outstanding songs. There is no one quite like this versatile entertainer. You will like Brightman's awesome collection if you enjoy any of the recommended music by the wonderful women I listed here. "Songs That Got Away" is an album that is a must for your music library. A nice CD to play on the stereo at home or in the car, but I have received many compliments piping these classic songs into my office waiting room and over the speaker system at cocktail receptions and parties.
I bought this album on cassette many years ago and was overcome with the purity of her voice and the catchiness of the songs. Of course, this was the only cassette in my entire collection that broke. I've sent my husband Xmas shopping for 4 years to replace it - no luck! Thank God I'll hear it once again!
Now, this album used to be 'no longer made' in recent years. However, its production and availability in certain music stores has been revived. There are several songs which are charming (I particularly like the song 'Meadowlark') and some which aren't my favorites (like 'Lud's Wedding'), but on the whole, fans of Sarah Brightman probably won't care.
