Overview
Though Lewis played with the Sam Morgan big band in the 1920s, his singing, birdlike tone and artless-seeming style make him sound almost like a folk musician. Whatever, the band numbers -- with Kid Shots Madison or Kid Howard and the other usual suspects -- are delightfully familiar, and the trio cuts sound new. A little odd in spots -- "La Marseillaise"!? -- it's still entirely beguiling. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music
