This book opened my eyes to the effects that certain acidic or alkaline foods has on our bodies, especially all of the meat, not just beef and pork. Since making a slight shift in the foods I eat, those stubborn few pounds and ab fat has been coming off.

The premise of this book, from what I gather, is that the foods you eat affect the pH level of your blood, which should always be slightly alkaline for good health. Some foods contribute to blood acidity and some foods promote alkaline - you want most of your diet to include those foods that promote an alkaline blood balance. The body goes through a balancing act every time we eat trying to maintain the right pH level, so even if your pH level is at the neutral/alkaline point, giving it more alkaline foods makes it easier for your body. I was disappointed that it turned out to be a very limited diet - basically vegan. The author presented numerous stories of people who were cured of ailments like allergies and chronic fatigue (some others I can't recall) after following this diet plan and they were very inspirational. But there are people who don't follow this diet that are still very healthy, and people used to eat meat during winter when there wasn't a global food industry. The author was very good at presenting her ideas and supporting evidence but I think this diet is better as a month-long body cleanse. Interesting reading in any case.
