Overview

From nationally bestselling author Kristina Cook comes an award-winning historical romance set in Regency England--first time in digital!

All Lucy Abbington wants is to get through her first London season without losing sight of her true ambition—gaining some informal training in veterinary arts so that she can retire peacefully to the countryside with her beloved horses. Instead, she’s caught up in a whirlwind of balls, marriage proposals, and ton intrigues. Worse, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to her sponsors’ maddening neighbor, Henry Ashton, the Marquess of Mandeville. The handsome, arrogant, sometimes infuriating Mandeville stokes a passionate fire within her that won’t be denied, no matter the consequence.

Deep, emotional scars secretly plague Henry, Lord Mandeville. As a result, he’s avoided romantic entanglements at all costs. Only, now he needs a wife—someone from a wealthy, powerful family to further his political aspirations. Instead, he finds himself all but obsessed with the beautiful but unconventional Lucy Abbington—a woman whose passions and wit stir desires he’d rather ignore. And yet…she might just be the one woman who can heal his wounded heart.

Lucy and Henry’s heads say no, but their hearts say yes. Will they find themselves undone by love?

I just really lovedthis book! It had all the elements that a true historical romance reader wants in a story...romance with passion, opposites attracting and conflicts to overcome. Read this book in less than two days...just couldn't put it down.it is a full 243 pages of bliss.

This was an easy 240 pg read. Good story line and characters. Steamy and a little wicked but just a enough not to take away from the story. My only complaint is that the heorine should have had a little more backbone with the hero. Read and see if you agree he got forgiveness to easily.

Lucy is a wanna be vet. Not something attainable in that time period. Henry the marquis--is a wanna be human being and he takes a long time to get it right. His mother is so nasty--mother teresa would slap her silly. On a sensual scale of 1-10-- it is a dull 1 and you wait until the last few pages of the book. Throw in a few catty i wanna be a bride of a marquis and you have an ok read. If nothing else you want to see lucy shine with the animals and henry trying not to be one. And mommy dearest--will she get whats coming to her??

How many second chances are there? I don't think I've ever read a book where someone is more airy than this book. How many times can you mess up, say you are sorry and then get back to the story? Some of the passages were not written very well but very abrupt. Others were good.

Ooops! Its free! ... rather, save your time. A thoroughly dislikeable hero and weak kneed heroine give the genre no Applause. You will never get those hours back. Wished I had cleaned out the closet as originally intended.

Lucy Abbington would rather not have a Season with the ton but doing so to please her father. Lucy would much rather study veterinary arts because she's especially gifted with healing animals. Lord Henry Ashton wants nothing to do with marriage or his mother's plans for him. Henry thinks that going for a ride will cure his thoughts. When Henry's horse Phantom is injured a charming beauty takes exceptional care. Henry wonders who is this person. Henry's introduction to Lucy brings him to another surprise. Can Henry admit his attraction? Will Lucy realize her dream? Your answers await you in Unlaced.

This is a nicely written, historical romance. I found it to be a story that was hard to put down.

The book was free so who can complain. I didn't buy into the storyline for most of the book. In fact, I put it down several times.

I was in the mood for some Regency type romance and this was reccommended to me. The story was enjoyable, the prose adequate and flowing. The main character, Lucy, is driven and strong and I was absolutely enamored with Colin Rosemoor. If you're looking to while away a few hours and don't mind a handful of awkward bits, this is a good pick.
