Lieutenant Eve Dallas must keep the predator from becoming the prey in Vendetta in Death, the newest thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb.

She calls herself Lady Justice. And once she has chosen a man as her target, she turns herself into a tall blonde or a curvaceous redhead, makes herself as alluring and seductive as possible to them. Once they are in her grasp, they are powerless.

The first victim is wealthy businessman Nigel McEnroy. His company’s human resources department has already paid out settlements to a couple of his young victims—but they don’t know that his crimes go far beyond workplace harassment. Lady Justice knows. And in one shocking night of brutality, she makes him pay a much steeper price.

Now Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, are combing through the evidence of McEnroy’s secret life. His compulsive need to record his misdeeds provides them with a wide range of suspects, but the true identity of Lady Justice remains elusive. It’s a challenging case, made even more difficult by McEnroy’s widow, who reacts to the investigation with fury, denial, and threats. Meanwhile, Lady Justice’s criminal crusade is escalating rapidly, and if Eve can’t stop this vigilante, there’s no telling how much blood may be spilled…

I love this series, but this installment is not one of the better ones. The whole think feels rushed, with too much "ripped from the headlines," and not enough depth.

I have read every one of the "in death" series and while I truly love catching up with Peabody, McNab and Feeney and the rest of the gang, this one felt blah. The structure of the story with the killer being outed so soon left me with a ho hum here we go again same old Eve and Roark doing the same thing as every other book. i think it's time to liven up the story line. Stretch Eva's character, make her get out of her comfort zone, let Peabody & McNab have more page time, get more in-depth with those extra folks those of us who read these books love, and maybe give a bit more of a mystery instead of a quick same old formula read. I don't see myself spending the big bucks cost for these books if I feel it's the same book over and over with a few plot changes.

i have read every book. i remain disappointed in the last several including this one. i love all of her many characters whose names are mentioned in this book . However ..mentioning them isnot enough for me. i want to experiene their character and spirit. Lacked thhe ezcitment of who done it. Peabody. Mcnabe.Eve and Roarke felt like routine paper pushers. I doubt that I will purchase any more of this series. This book felt shallow.

I've read every book in JDR's death series. 4 to 5 stars down the line until this one. It was, as usual well written but I missed the suspense of not knowing "Who Done It" till later in the story. I can say that it presented several opportunities for unraveling new story lines that expand the bull pen characters. It's the depth and richness of characters like Peabody, Mavis, Mira and Nadine that I love. One always expects murder and mystery but it feels like catching up with old friends every time I open another book! It must be hard to produce this many works and to hit it out of the park every time. So 48 out of 49 winners...

I normally love this series, but it just a well written formulaic mystery book with a different serial killer. The interactions are the same; the love scenes between Eve and Roarke are the same, same banter with Peabody and the other detectives, Nadine etc... are the same in this book as the last 10 'In Death' series. It has taken me 6 days to read this book because there is nothing new. If you have to read it, save your money and get it at your local library.

Very disappointed, Lady Justice easy to figure out and identified way too soon. At that point I didn't care how they proved her guilt. Very little on the rest of the gang. 293 pages and I still feel cheated. Not J.D. Robb at her best.

seems shorter than previous books but action packed. Deducted one star because I guessed from the beginning who the murderor was but it was fun seeing Eve proving it. Also there was a exciting development I have been waiting for even if it terrorizes Eve and Roatkem

I love Eve an Roarke. Softer story - even murder cops deal with real life situations. enough action and overall great writing to keep me engaged

very good story line enjoyed it a lot but Lady Justice as identified way to early in the book I prefer a little not suspense in my reading.

Eve Dallas and her team continue to grow and evolve as individuals and in their relationships with each other with each new book in the In Death series - that's as much a part of the addiction to this series as the murders and mystery.

“You’ve been very kind and very patient with me. I won’t forget it.” “I’m just doing my job.” “Kindness isn’t a job, Eve, it’s a choice.” Vendetta in Death is book 49 in the In Death series by J.D. Robb. One of the things I like best about the character of Eve Dallas is her ability to treat her victims equally, even if they’re repugnant human beings. Her sense of justice is pretty black and white and murder is against her code of ethics. This is one of those stories where you almost sympathize with the killer, especially in the case of the first victim. This book has strong Me Too undertones with a female vigilante, Lady Justice, on the loose. I love reading this author’s villains, she’s really good at writing their thoughts, feelings, and psychology. I feel like this series shows the highs and lows of life and there are some happy surprises awaiting you in this book. Happy reading, solid Eve Dallas story! Bookstagram:

Great read, a tiny bit predictable but still entertaining

Ms. Robb continues to build the characters in this series, revealing their strengths and weaknesses and injecting delightful humor when the plot becomes intense. I started with the first book in the series, have read every one written since and have never been disappointed. I look forward to #50!

Very disappointing. I’m not even convinced J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts wrote this. One of the strengths of the series is the ongoing development not only of Eve but of all the characters. Secondary characters have been given walk on roles here; Peabody, check; McNab, check; Nadine, check; Callender, check. The story line was flimsy and predictable. A few others of the more recent entries in the series have been weak, too. I hope Ms. Roberts has not over extended herself with all the books she has going.

Always am glued to my seat even when I figure out who did the bad! Enjoy the ride, the humor between Roarke & Eve! How the growth of Eve has progressed. These books are a family affair as both my daughters & I read them!

Another outstanding book by JD Robb!!!!!! I truly loved all of the books in the in Death series, the characters seem so real. JD Robb does an outstanding job keeping the facts straight from book to book and definitely don't want to put it down! I always find myself chuckling at parts or crying at others. I can't wait until February for Golden in Death to be released!!!
