Waking Up Is Hard to Do

Waking Up Is Hard to Do

by Neil Sedaka

Following right on the heels of his holiday album The Miracle of Christmas, Waking Up Is Hard to Do is Neil Sedaka's first children's album, a move that makes it hard not to wonder if Sedaka is working through his own "bucket list" of projects he's never quite gotten around to attempting. Like his Christmas LP, Waking Up is curiously, proudly out of step with the times, containing no modern production frills and being the better for it. It's just Sedaka and a keyboard, sometimes a little more, knocking out silly, sometimes clever send-ups of his classic tunes, throwing in a couple of pretty good new ones for good measure. It's lively, melodic, and engaging, with Sedaka goofing around with the kids -- some are indeed here singing along on choruses -- instead of talking down to them, and while that may not be quite the same thing as talking to them as an equal, it does make for an infectious, good-spirited listen.

My granddaughter, Ella and I put this CD in and dance! Of course, she has no idea that I danced in a different way to these songs a long time ago. The lyrics are original, the music fun and the beat just right for Ella and Grandma to dance. As she turned three years old not long ago, she got a kick out of the "birthday song" for three year olds. I wish other artists would follow Neil Sedaka's lead and share their music with our youngsters. This is a "keeper" CD!

Neil is so entertaining and creative it is fun for children and adults alike. Adults should remember different word to the tunes - the children will love the new version.

I bought this CD for my grandchildren be cause I knew that with the beats and rythm of the original Neil Sedaka they would enjoy that. When I first gave it to them their mother started singing and dancing. Then I told her to listen to the words of the music and she just burst out laughing. She said she actually could not believe what she was hearing. The grandchildren had a blast. My seven year old grandson already knows the words to all the songs. I gave it a 4 on relaxation because it just makes you want to get up and dance along. Wonderful. I wish he would do more.

I enjoy sharing these CD's with all the children on my gift list. The music is so uplifting and the lessons shared by Neil and his grandchildren are entertaining and beneficial. I invite you to move with the music and enjoy the messages shared by Neil. This CD will brighten your day and bring a smile to your face. "If you are a GIRL or a BOY, Jump'n'Jive with Neil just for JOY."

I purchased this for my 2 1/2 year old grandson and it is a hit! He can't listen to this (and he does ALL the time) without getting up and dancing. The hardest part is not singing the original words to the songs. Creative, uplifting and educational, this is a great choice for your toddler.

He was on one of the morning shows. The 4yr old was in high energy, typical, when Neil started singing. I hadn't been paying any attention to the TV up to that point, but as anyone with small children knows, when it gets unexpectedly quiet it's time to get interested. I went into the TV room and there he was just staring at the TV with this happy grin on his face. He listened to the whole song and after it was over he wanted more. The song that was played was the title track "Waking up is hard to do". I went out to B&N and ordered it. Every time we're in the car he wants his music. Almost every time it's this.

We are grandparents and have always liked Neil Sedaka. How clever that he used the good ol' tunes and made up words appropriate for children. I know my daughter enjoys singing along with old familiar tunes and words that her son understands. Bring on more music like this!!!
