I have never written a review on a book...unless you count my book reports from elementary school. However, this book has been so helpful in breaking down what I should and shouldn't eat that I feel compelled to sing it's praises so that it can help others like it has helped me. I am pregnant for the first time so of course, I have had many questions. I never purchased the original What To Expect book because I felt you could get all the information online. When I started feeling like everything I eat could be deadly, I realized I needed help so I found this book online. Not only does the book do a great job in making me feel less overwhelmed with eating right, almost half of the book is composed of recipes that are very easy and very good...especially if you consider they're healthy! This is a great book for anyone feeling overwhelmed and needing inspiration!

I chose this book because we're going to start trying for a family in the next several months and I figured, better to get the nutrition thing under control now. There are going to be enough shocks to the system with pregnancy without my dinner being one of them. I chose poorly. Is the information in this book any good? Maybe. I don't know. Because I couldn't get past the tone. "We're BFFs! Let me tell you about your baby factory!" Good lord. If I wanted to be talked to like a half-wit, I'd get a prenatal nutrition book written by the staff at Seventeen Magazine (there must be one). The median age of first pregnancies in the US is well into adulthood - I can't imagine what the point of dumbing it down would be. There's conversational and then there's contrived and condescending. Likewise, I found the book meandering - as though the author was trying to create 10 pages from every page of actual, useful information. Lady, I'm onto you. I'm surprised your editor wasn't. Frustrated, I finally put the book down in favor of my laptop, Google and some articles written by nutritionists who didn't have page quotas to fill. What a waste of time.

This book was calming to me as my spouse and I are trying to conceive our first child. I had a lot of common questions that took too much of my doctors time and to keep the secret of trying, I couldn't ask my usually reliable mother and friends! So this book answered many of those common and uncommon questions that I had.

I bought this book to help me get ready for getting pregnant. I looked at it like a 'diet' book for pregnancy to prepare my eating habits ahead of time. Lots of nutritional and medical info plus good recipes. Good Stuff!
