Victim and survivor Flora Dane is back with a vengeance in When You See Me. D.D. Warren is assigned a multi-jurisdictional case of a skeleton buried fifteen years in rural Georgia. Jacob Ness, the serial killer who held Flora as his sex slave for over a year until she killed him, is suspected. D.D. brings in Flora, and Flora’s new serial killer obsessed techie boyfriend, Keith Edgar. All four work with the head of the team FBI agent Kimberly Quincy to catch the victim’s killer. The book is told from four women’s point of view—D.D., Flora, Kimberly, and an unknown victim who has lost the power of speech to a bullet. It is a riveting tale that delves into what happens to bodies when buried in shallow graves that I won’t soon forget. If you’re ready for a fast-paced deep dive into the seedy side of mankind, pick up the latest D.D. Warren book, When You See Me. Even though this is fine as a standalone, you may want to start with Flora’s own story in Find Her first. 5 stars and highly recommended! Thanks to Dutton Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I received an ARC from the publisher asking if I would please review Lisa Gardner's new book. This is my voluntary, honest review. All I can say is if you love suspense, thrills, & nail biting situations you need to read this book! I have to say I think this is one of the best D.D. Warren/Flora Dane books to date. This book grabs you from the first page and will not let go so do not pick it up until you can sit down and read the entire book! Enjoy!

I found this an entertaining read and a nice addition to the D D Warren series. It was well written and engaging as are all Lisa Gardner novels. Added bonus of Agent Kimberly Quincy being the other main character. These are two empowering females who are always a pleasure to read about. I look forward to the next installment in the series but note that it can be read as a standalone book as well as out of order. I recommend this book! Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC copy!

A little slow in the beginning but then took off and finished strong! It was great to see three of her female characters from her other series all come together to stop the bad guy. An enjoyable read!

Loved the way Lisa Gardner introduced the characters and led us thru this mystery. Couldn't put it down. Had me completely fooled right up to the climax. I'm hoping for a continuing story line with these new characters in DD Warrens life. Another hit!

Wow! Just wow! This book was all I had hoped for in a new D.D. Warren and Flora Dane book! Bodies being discovered everywhere! A small town built on secrets! What’s not to love? The characters were all bigger than life. Keith got a bigger and a heroic part in this novel, so I’m liking him a lot more than in the previous books. Flora is still portrayed as a survivor who doesn’t trust anyone, and D.D. joins with Kimberly Quincyfrom the F.B.I. in order to discover the secrets of the little town with a lot to hide and many reasons to keep everything hidden. Fans of Lisa Gardner will devour this book and want to see more of these characters who are unabashedly afraid, but they do their jobs anyway. This storyline touched on so many important issues. The symbolism of the characters, especially Bonita and Fora , was well done!

Propulsive, Riveting, and disturbing! In this latest novel by Gardner, When You See Me, Detective D.D. Warren, FBI Agent Kimberly Quincy, and survivor-turned-vigilante Flora Dane head to the Georgia Hills where authorities believe bones of an early Jacob Ness victim have been found. But as the investigation unfolds and more bones are discovered it would seem that things in the charming town of Niche aren’t quite what they first appeared and a much darker, sinister danger seems to be at play. The writing is gritty and tight. The characters are diligent, scarred, and relentless. And the plot told from multiple perspectives keeps you on the edge of your seat as it submerges you into a menacing tale full of twists, turns, secrets, red herrings, deception, manipulation, deduction, attraction, mayhem, violence, and murder. Once again, When You See Me has proven that when it comes to writing exceptionally complex, fast-paced, deftly plotted, police procedurals with exceptional character development and nefarious storylines Gardner is definitely one of the best.

Lisa Gardner delivers the 11th installment in her D.D. Warren series, compelling and haunting mystery that succeeds on every level. It opens with a disturbing first-person narrative from girl who, at just five years of age, witnesses the abuse and murder of her mother, and is wounded herself. Her identity is unknown. She relates her story in chapters alternating Flora's narrative, as well as chapters focusing on Kimberly and D.D. When a couple of hikers happen upon skeletal remains in the tranquil Georgia mountains, just outside the picturesque little town of Niche, D.D. and Kimberly lead a team of investigators tasked with examining the makeshift gravesite, along with the hiking trails surrounding it and the quaint little community. The mysterious narrator reveals that she can draw, but is unable to speak, read or write. Her art is the only way she can convey the atrocities she has witnessed. But where have those hellacious events taken place? And who were the victims she mentions? More bodies are found, & it seems increasingly apparently that the remains may be linked with none other than Jacob Ness, who kidnapped Flora and held her in a coffin-shaped box. Flora was a vivacious young woman when he snatched her, and subjected her to unspeakable terror and abuse from which she has never recovered. Flora is forever changed and has become a vigilante determined to ensure that no one other young women suffer as she has. D.D. leaves her crime analyst husband and precocious six-year-old son, Jack, behind in Boston in order to devote herself to solving a decades-old crime. That does not extinguish the pain and guilt she experiences when she is away from them, a fact that continues to confound and amaze her. It was Kimberly who discovered that Jacob was a serial predator and led the raid on the Florida hotel room where he was holding Flora captive. She is equally devoted to her career. The first victim identified is Lilah Abenit, who was declared missing fifteen years ago . . . and one of Jacob's first victims. Because of that connection, Flora's assistance is vital to the investigation. Having survived a harrowing ordeal, she has intimate knowledge about Jacob, his proclivities and thought processes, and where his quest for victim may have led him. But reliving those details may prove too much for Flora as they narrow in on the actual site where Jacob held her captive. Tautly constructed in Gardner's familiar style, it is a fast-paced, searing adventure toward the truth about Jacob Hess, as well as local residents who may have been involved in a horrifying scheme that has left many young women dead. Joined by the local sheriff, the team of investigators divide up responsibility and confront the powerful local citizens who will stop at nothing to keep their crimes from being revealed. Flora's willingness to confront the lingering emotional toll is absorbing and deeply emotional. She shares her innermost feelings, as well as the ways in which her life changed forever on that fateful day when Jacob kidnapped her. Equally disturbing yet fascinating is the story related by the young woman who saw her mother brutally killed and was rendered mute, and has lived in terror every day since. When her identity is revealed, the pace of the story accelerates as shocking truths are revealed and the urgent need to solve the case becomes apparent. It is an entertaining mystery that is unsparingly heartbreaking & visceral. ARC courtesy of NetGalley.

I LOVE A GOOD LISA GARDNER BOOK! This did not disappoint. Won't spoil anything for anyone, but I will say the story line was a page turner as a good D.D., Kimberly, and Flora team up would be. Can't wait for the next one!
