PreS-Gr 1 Attractive, vividly colored illustrations in watercolor and oil pastel show simply-drawn people and animals, first in fall (``Where do all the squirrels go?''), then in their winter habitats (``They settle down to sleep in their treetop nests''). The illustrations have a cozy look; their simplicityand the simplicity of the textwill prove appealing to young children, as will the question-and-answer format. Yet the information is misleading. All birds do not fly away to warmer places; all tortoises do not winter in straw-filled cardboard boxes; all squirrels do not sleep through the winter in their nestsnot even in England, where this book was first published.
