Overview

Mortimer is looking for love. And he’s looking everywhere! He’s worked out at the gym (if only his arm wouldn’t keep falling off). He’s tried ballroom dancing lessons (but the ladies found him to be a bit stiff). He’s even been on stalemate.com. How’s a guy supposed to find a ghoul? When it seems all hope has died, could the girl of Mortimer’s dreams be just one horrifying shriek away?

I saw this book on a table at my local Barnes & Noble and looked thru it and absolutely loved it. It has just the right amount of humor and the illustrations are just perfect. I thought it was on a table for young adults but find to my delight its also for young readers too! I am ordering it for my 6 1/2 yr old granddaughter who loved The Nightmare Before Christmas. Try it, you'll love Zombie and the way the story ends.

Everything a boy could love in a creepy kind of way. Very entertaining, my six year old laughed the whole way through, along with quite a few "oh my gosh," along the way. Thanks!!

I purchased this book for my 8 year old for Valentine's Day. It was a refreshing alternative to the mushy love stuff. The lead character didn't change who he was and everything worked out in the end.

Summary: Mortimer the zombie wants to find a date for the valentines dance. He tries giving a girl candy, A heart, and a diamond ring but because the candy had worms in it, the heart was a real heart and the diamond ring was still attached to a finger they didn't work quite well. He puts an add in the paper for a date then gets all spiffed up and goes to the dance. He waits and waits and just as he is about to leave he sees a girl zombie that was answering his add. They dance and fall in love.Personal reaction: I loved this book! It was adorable. The story line was nice for the age range and it was something I had never heard before. The pictures were good as well. The use of color was not bright or too dark but just right for the subject. I am a huge fan of Tim Burton and while this was not his work I loved the concept and that someone actually decided to play into the morbidity that some kids like.Classroom extension ideas:1. Read it during valentines week for reading time. 2.Read it during Halloween to show that not all zombies are scary.

Beautiful artwork and a simple yet sweet little love story about a lonely zombie named Mortimer:)He's having trouble finding a love connection because none of the girls seem to like his zombie ways. But he wants to go to the Cupid Ball and dance so he places an ad online and waits.... It's a great tale about how there's someone for everyone, and that love can come when we least expect it but be that much more beautiful for it. I love lOvE LOVE this book :D

I bought this for my great niece's second grade class and they loved it. As a matter of fact it was being passed around the entire second grade wing, so all of the kids could enjoy it. Loved the speed dating.
